Pictures and comments about our garden will soon be posted here.
It is just a little patch of dirt with some plants, but I can see it being more. With times how they are, it is nice to walk outside and pick your own food from plants you have raised. The ratties benefit too from delicious, fresh veggies and fruit.

My Friends the Wild Donkeys!!

How ethereal is this. I came home from a day in Pasadena where, rather than clean cages, my friend and I spent the day shopping. When I got home at two some o'clock in the morning, two little donkeys were in my driveway. I got out of the car, expecting them to run. They wandered into the neighbors yard.

Have you ever read the Black Stallion?
It's a book about a boy stranded on an island with a big black Arabian stallion.
Well, I ended up with a quantity of Walter Farley books (the author), all about horses. So, here I am faced with everyday life, driving home on back roads to avoid a closed freeway. I get home and wonder is standing there in front of me. Childhood... Nostalgia... All the rest of it in this long-eared gray package.

What happened next?

This guy thought I smelled good. He came up and sniffed my hand. Did I mention that I love wild donkeys?

In case people don't know, I used to train horses. My best talent....? Handling the colts.

Here is a picture of me petting the young boy (colt). The other is a filly.

I know... Bad girl. No touch the baby donkeys!!!

Okay, I couldn't help it.

If I failed to mention it, I live in a neighborhood at the base of some hills. These two look like twins that lost their mother. She may have died. They are merely weanlings (4-6 months) from my estimation. I named them: Shadow (the dark one) and Sunny (the gray).

Anybody have a farm? The little boy wanted to follow me, but I didn't let him. I know.... Bad girl!!!

They can't stay in my yard. Though, you know I would let them stay if I could.

Maybe they will visit again one night.

How beautiful a moment is that?
Communing with a baby donkey and having it trust you like you were mom...

Maybe a sign of times to come??

Our favorite place to buy Heirloom Seeds?

Baker's Creek

Their seeds are not genetically modified. Their varieties are awesome.

Spring 09 Garden Plans

We now have 600 sq. ft. of growing room

Our actually varieties depend on the seeds we get in our seed collection from Baker's Creek.
This collection hosts 60 varieties of around 25 veggies and fruits.
We're sharing this collection with our fellow breeder, Amy of Family Affair Rats in Pasadena.

Of course, this will be added to the other seeds we still have and supplemented to get those special varieties that aren't included in the collection.
